This is a specialized tour for people who want a more authentic experience that really
sticks to the original culture of the site. In this case, San Miguel de Allende is a Central
Mexico region where one of the most amazingly diverse cultures took place between the
years 5000 A.C. to our days. We are speaking about OTOMI culture, the most ancient
culture in central México. The internationally known Aztec culture nourish from the
Otomian culture whose knowledge in astronomy, agriculture and healing techniques are
millenarian, mostly known as Toltec.
Otomí culture is probably behind important archaeological sites as Teotihuacan, Tula and
Cuicuilco. Today, otomí population is located in the states of México, Guanajuato,
Michoacán, Querétaro, Veracruz and Puebla.

Itinerary:
Day 1: City tour
After we pick you up in the airport* or your hotel, we drive to San Miguel de Allende (aprox. 4 hours with toilette or coffee stop). at hour arrival we install you in a nice hotel of your choice, then we begin the adventure of being in one of the liveliest town in central Mexico. *Mexico city airport or León airport.
In a relatively small area, all walkable, we are going to find beautiful colonial architecture, mural
painting, art galleries, local handcrafts and amazingly unique popular traditions. After being led to
the hotspots of town, get the flavor of San Miguel cultural life and gastronomy, following the
recommendations of your expert guide.
Day 2: Archeological site Cañada de la Virgen, Archaeoastronomy museum and pre-Hispanic
Otomí gastronomy
An exciting day of local prehispanic live traditions of the region, in terms of archaeology and
gastronomy. The site is located only 20 minutes away from San Miguel.
We begin the day with the visit of the Otomi ruins and then the visit of a private museum of
astronomical observations of the local site Cañada de la Virgen, made by Arch. Rossana Quiróz.
She spent almost 10 years of her life doing a photographic register of the main temple of Cañada
de la Virgen, as an astronomical marker of the moon and the sun, as well as other important
planets like Venus and Jupiter. You are going to learn the correlations between the old codexes,
the calendar and the astronomical findings that the modern science denominated Social
Astronomy develops and explains.
In the same museum, Jesús Real, Rossana´s husband, and two atomi women of the community
prepare traditional food made with local ingredients by Otomí local people. Get to know
ceremonial tortillas of the traditional Otomí culture, local food as different kind of cactus,
prepared in many different dishes. The dishes vary according to the Mesoamerican calendar, each
“Veintena” (20 days month) has different assortment according to the year cycle.
